General terms & conditions of carriage of goods

Starting February 1, 2025

These general terms and conditions apply to the carriage of goods performed by or booked through Destination Gotland AB ("DG"). The general terms and conditions are supplemented by North Sea Standard Conditions of Carriage, 1994 (“The Standard Terms and Conditions”). In the event of any conflict between these general terms and conditions and The Standard Terms and Conditions, the former shall prevail.

These general terms and conditions are a translation of the Swedish original version. In the event of any conflict between the translation and the Swedish original version, the latter shall prevail.

1. Booking

  • Carriage of trucks and goods shall be booked through the Freight Booking Department. Such carriage includes i.a. heavy goods vehicles, light vehicles with length exceeding 9 m, tractors, agricultural vehicles and equipment, unaccompanied vehicles (without driver) and vehicles which require assistance in connection with loading and unloading.
  • The freight rate for a booking is based on the length, width and weight of the vehicle in accordance with the applicable Price List. The length of the vehicle is rounded to the nearest decimeter. These details shall be provided at the time of booking.
  • Carriage which includes dangerous goods in class 2 - 9 or class 1.4S must be booked no later than 24 hours (counting hours on weekdays only) before the scheduled departure time.
  • Carriage which includes dangerous goods in class 1 except class 1.4S must be booked no later than 7 days before the scheduled departure time.
  • Names and dates of birth shall be provided for all persons accompanying vehicles on board, as well as mobile phone number of the main driver.

2. Accompanying driver

  • The ticket price for the driver is not included in the vehicle freight rate.
  • Two drivers per vehicle are entitled to travel in accordance with the applicable Price List for cargo.
  • Additional accompanying passengers can be booked in accordance with the current passenger fares.

3. Cancellation of and changes to bookings of carriage of goods

  • Changes can be made to freight bookings. Cancellation, no show and late changes are subject to additional charges in accordance with the applicable Price List.

4. Freight and other charges

  • Applicable freight and other charges are stated in the Price List currently in force.
  • DG has the right to pass on to the freight purchaser or consignee any costs incurred by DG, e.g. in connection with port and stevedoring services, in connection with certain cargo or a particular vehicle.

5. Payment and billing

  • Bookings are paid by bank transfer or debit/credit card on DG's website or by debit/credit card at check-in. Unless otherwise agreed upon, carriage must be paid no later than before check-in.
  • Registered customers with customer reference numbers pay by invoice. Invoice must be paid within 30 days of invoice date.
  • In the event of late payment, late payment interest is charged in accordance with the Swedish Interest Act of 1975 (räntelagen).
  • Before entering into a credit payment agreement, customary credit checks will be made.
  • In the case of credit payment agreements, a monthly credit limit will be set.

6. Check-in and delivery of goods

  • Check-in for vehicles with accompanying driver closes 20 minutes before departure.
  • Unaccompanied vehicles may be checked in at the port of departure no earlier than 24 hours before departure, during the opening hours of the Freight Office at the port of departure. For vehicles that do not run in regular traffic, check-in must take place no later than 2 hours before departure.
  • The driver or the carrier must be able to present the necessary transport documents at check-in, such as booking confirmation, stowage certificate or cleaning certificate.
  • Packing, stowage, lashing and other preparations must have been carried out in accordance with applicable legislation and instructions given by DG, the crew onboard or terminal staff.
  • Freight units must be equipped with sufficient lashing brackets in accordance with the Swedish Transport Agency's guidelines.
  • Unaccompanied vehicles must be licensed for use, insured with compulsory road traffic insurance and be fully functional.
  • Unaccompanied tractors, loaders and other agricultural vehicles must include a detailed operating instruction written in Swedish or English. In the absence of such operating instructions, DG has the right to refuse loading of the vehicle. DG has the right to park and leave vehicles that have been refused loading on this basis. Such arrangement is at the expense and risk of the transport buyer.

7. Dangerous goods and cargo requiring special care or handling

  • Dangerous goods are received for transport only after written consent from the Freight Booking Department. Transport of dangerous goods is performed in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding for the Transport of Dangerous Goods on Ro-Ro Ships in the Baltic Sea (MoU Baltic Sea) or the IMDG Code.
  • Information about dangerous goods or other cargo that requires special care or handling must be provided in connection with booking.
  • The shipper is responsible for ensuring that the cargo and transport units are correctly declared, labelled and marked in accordance with the MoU Baltic Sea or the IMDG Code and any other applicable regulations.
  • A transport document for dangerous goods (DGD) must be sent to frakt@destintiongotland.se no later than 24 hours before the booked departure for Class 2-9 and Class 1.4S and no later than 7 days before the booked departure for any other Class 1. A signed stowage certificate must be available at the time of transport and presented at check-in.
  • Unaccompanied goods containing dangerous goods are subject to special conditions. For information about this, please contact the Freight Booking Department.

8. Brand new cars

  • Carriage of brand new cars must be transported on load carriers. For more information, please contact the Freight Booking Department.

9. Safety regulations, code of conduct and safety instructions

  • All passengers are obliged to comply with applicable safety regulations and code of conduct as well as instructions given by the crew onboard and the terminal staff.
  • DG has the right to refuse loading of vehicles that do not start, are not equipped with a parking brake or that on any other grounds could be assumed to be in such a condition that the safety of property, the environment or people on board or in terminal areas are endangered. DG has the right to park and leave vehicles that have been refused loading on this basis. Such arrangement is at the expense and risk of the transport buyer.
  • Physical searches and other inspections are subject to specific rules in port terminals and onboard vessels. Such searches and inspections may be made at random. Refusal to participate in a search or inspection means that the goods cannot be loaded onboard. Tickets and booked goods will not be refunded in case of refusal to participate in search or inspection.

10. Receipt of cargo at the port of discharge

  • In order to take delivery of cargo at the port of discharge the receiver must be able to state the booking number and present a valid form of identification.
  • Unaccompanied vehicles or cargo must be collected at the port of discharge within 24 hours of the vessel’s scheduled arrival.
  • In the event that vehicles or other cargo is collected later than 24 hours after the vessel’s arrival at the port of discharge, DG is entitled levy additional charges in accordance with the applicable port tariff, or the actual costs incurred by DG.
  • DG has the right to park and leave vehicles and to arrange storage of other cargoes that are not collected within 24 hours after the vessel’s arrival at the port of discharge, at which point the vehicle or cargo shall be deemed duly delivered.

11. Notification of damage to goods

  • Damage to vehicles or goods must be notified to the personnel at the freight office or to the ship's crew on board immediately.
  • Claims and documentation need to be sent to: skadehantering@destinationgotland.se forthwith after such damage has been discovered.
  • DG applies the NSOCC Green card 2011 when assessing whether a damage can be reimbursed.
